I call it 'My Nerd Mirror'
This little gadget gives you an incredibly HUGE 'Field of View' BEHIND you when riding your bike. I would estimate that I can see 50 feet Wide and 300 feet distant. I have been riding road bikes for 40+ years and this mirror and my alertness (paranoia helps too) has saved me from vehicle contact, serious injury or death several times. (Example: when a 'big rig' is approaching me from the rear at the same time as a 'big rig' is approaching me frontally, a quick estimate tells me that 'It's my lucky day and they will pass each other at my approximate position, yes, you guessed it, I get off the road in the grass !' I am NOT ashamed to 'Survive, Escape, Evade, Resist' as I gladly apply the old bromide, 'Discretion is the better part of Valor'
Another rare but potentially deadly example is some bozo hauling a lawn mower in a pick-up truck with the handle sticking out over the right shoulder of the highway, yeh coincidentally that the same space that my cranium happens to occupy. Rather than be decapitated by a lawn mower handle, I choose once again to head for the grass. At 50mph it might as well be a razor-sharp Samurai sword, as Clint Eastwood once said 'It will take your head clean off !'
This is how I got to be 59 last April ! By avoiding all these rare, freaky, but real hazards by maintaining a 360 degree vigilance. The best training for cycling is actually taking the MSF Course, MotorCycle Safety Foundation, talks about SIPDE awareness, like a zen level of concentration. Scan, Interpret, Predict, Decide, Execute.
I attach it per instructions to the left temple of my Oakley glasses then I tape it securely with 'medical' tape.
The last one I bought before this lasted ten years, I'm replacing it not because it failed but because the sunglasses it's taped to are scratched and will be used as a 'Back-Up' pair.
It looks a little weird but I actually position the mirror on the diagonal, I actually get a more useful and larger rear view.
This is one of the many SURVIVAL skills that a veteran road biker uses to stay alert, cautious, and SAFE.Get more detail about Bike Peddler Take A Look Cycling Eyeglass Mirror.
