I won't bother to re-state the positive reviews of this chain but I have to admit that even though I knew that this bicycle security device would be heavy, somehow I grossly underestimated just how heavy it would be! I made the mistake of passing our mail kiosk while our mail carrier was putting mail in our boxes and asked if she had my package. I offered to sign for it right there so she wouldn't have to drive up to my door and she kept trying to persuade me that I didn't want to do that. "Are you sure? This package is really heavy. What's in there, anyway? Lead bricks?" The box wasn't big at all but it was THAT heavy and dense. I had to stop a few times to shift the weight from one arm to the other on the way home :) For sure, this is not a lock you want to carry around regularly for short bike rides. I'm not even sure that my baskets and panniers could handle that much weight. For longer term lock-ups, this chain is so HUGE and heavy that I can't imagine that a thief would even bother to try to defeat it! I'll be carrying it in my car when I travel with my bike for locking it up once I reach my destination but for quick trips into markets?
