I purchased this bike two months ago, and have put 10-15 miles a day since then for my daily commute. I used to ride when I was younger, and like others, got my drivers license and gave up on it. This was my first road bike and I too was concerned about the low price. At ~$300, it's super cheap even for entry level road bikes.
However, the bike is surprisingly great; and lightweight for the price. Many of the parts are Shimano and Tru-Vativ. I put it together in roughly 15 minutes, and felt like a champ as other reviews mentioned the process taking an hour. This would be my rookie mistake. Firstly, if you have no experience building bike, get it built by your local shop and get it tuned up as well.
While the bike may ride well for your first 50 miles, you'll risk damage to the bike if it's not assembled properly. The $60-$80 you pay for this will seriously pay off down the road (pun intended.)
Additionally, as with any new bike; get the wheels trued when they're visibly untrue(took about a month.)
If you're looking for an entry level road bike, this is a solid choice.Get more detail about Schwinn Katana Road Bike.
