While this light is nowhere close to the brightness of a true HID system, it is bright enough to stand on its own in urban areas, perhaps even a limestone trail after dusk. The superflash mode is very eye-catching to motorists, which is a very good thing, and you can see the strobe effect several blocks away. I like this light and I will certainly keep it.
Buyer beware, if you have a wireless cycling computer, this light will probably interfere with it when it's on (as another reviewer mentioned). I had mine on superflash mode and pedaling at about 8mph. My computer (Bontrager Trip 4w) was reading 45mph. When I shut the light off, the speedometer went right back to measuring my actual speed.
